D90 sample pics & video

These are some quick photos and a couple of videos that I took during the first few days that I had my D90.
At this point, most of the public galleries I have on this site have been shot with the D90, so have a look around. ;-)

  • D90 sample video : This 640x424 clip was taken with a Tokina 11-16mm at f2.8. This museum hall was only dimly lit by small overhead spotlights over each exhibit. No processing was done to the clip other than the H.264 conversion by the SmugMug site. Although the ISO in the camera was set to 3200, there's no telling what the camera actually used. The D90 appears to do it's own thing while taking video. I think though, that even if it isn't possible to verify that the camera was at ISO3200, the color and fidelity is impressive given how dark I know it was in there. Various methods are being discovered by early adopters to force the camera to raise or lower shutter speed or ISO but no direct control is possible (so far). ©2008 Adam R.Cookson

  • This was taken with the new 18-105mmVR lens and with the D90 at ISO 800. SB-800 flash bounced off of wall behind and left of camera. No processing done to image besides the sharpening that Lightroom does when it uploads to Smugmug.

  • I uploaded this shot for an example of the 18-105VR lens in what I suspect is close to its 'sweet spot' - ƒ5.6 and mid focal length (42mm).

(The D80 was known for heavily biasing the exposure for the region under the focus point). The red rectangle shows the approximate location of the focus point in the shot. Also, a pair of shots were made with and without 'Active D-lighting' enabled. The camera was in Program exposure mode with 3D matrix metering.
